M·A·T Pilates, Metropolitan Authentic Training, was designed by Dorothee VandeWalle, the internationally-renowned master teacher who is recognized as one of the leading teacher-trainers in the world. Dorothee teaches in the tradition of the original, authentic Pilates method. She was the protégé of Romana Kryzanowska (who herself was the protégé of Joseph Pilates) and started teaching with Romana at Drago's Gym in 1987. Dorothee teaches her students the techniques she learned from Romana which are as close to the original teaching of Joseph Pilates as is available anywhere in the world today. M·A·T Pilates focuses on training future Pilates teachers in an environment that promotes immersive learning and a commitment to excellence. Our curriculum emphasizes hands-on instruction with students working side-by-side with Dorothee herself. Dorothee is well known for being a demanding and exacting leader who draws the best out of each student. Students in our programs work in a small-group environment designed to deliver an in-depth and dynamic training experience. A maximum of ten students are accepted into our programs at a time. M·A·T Pilates offers a Teacher Certification Program and a Teacher-Trainer Certification Program. The Teacher Certification Program is for individuals who would like to become certified Pilates instructors. It is a rigorous training program and is offered at Metropolitan Pilates in Seattle and at other training centers in the United States. The Teacher-Trainer Certification Program is for certified Pilates instructors who would like to become M·A·T Pilates teacher-trainers and open training centers. The Teacher-Trainer Certification Program is offered only at Metropolitan Pilates.
